NATIONAL Planning POLICY FRAMEWORK (NPPF)
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) sets out the Government’s planning policies for England and how these should be applied. It provides a framework within which locally-prepared plans for housing and other development can be produced.
Planning law requires that applications for planning permission be determined in accordance with the development plan, unless material considerations indicate otherwise. The National Planning Policy Framework must be taken into account in preparing the development plan, and is a material consideration in planning decisions. Planning policies and decisions must also reflect relevant international obligations and statutory requirements. The online searchable version of the revised National Planning Policy Framework is available HERE. |
On 20 July 2021, the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government introduced the Building Beautiful Places plan, a programme incorporating a range of measures including an update of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), the introduction of the National Model Design Code (NMDC) and the creation of the Office for Place.
